This three building complex houses La Garena Healthcare Centre, SUMMA 112 Base and The Primary Care of the former health area nº3 in Alcala de Henares.
While the complex has been designed as a single formal unit, the different areas and volumes have been distinguished clearly, in order to locate the Health Center as near as possible to the housing area (Eastern side). SUMMA 112 must be situated in response to the immediate and convenient access of vehicles and the General Warehouse is situated in such a way, that the functional demand of loading and unloading is facilitated. The longitudinal sequence Health Center – Primary Care – General Warehouse seems to be the most convenient design.
Pedestrian activity patterns are carried out towards the south and protected by a canopy which also communicates the entrance areas. In this area, a green slope running all along the building is designed, and an uneven acacia woodland plantation is incorporated. These woods protect open spaces from the sunlight in summer, and at the same time, act like a filter between the building and the suburban railway station.
Public and staff car parks are located on the north side, as well as a maneuvering area for SUMMA ambulances. All the parking area is protected from sunlight with a regular grid of PlatanusHispanica, which will uniformly cover the entire area in the future.
Both ways are communicated by an intermediate passage significantly aligned – in the cross direction – to the nearby Shopping Centre.
