CIS Lanzarote

PROJECT: Tachite Social Integration Center, Lanzarote

Built in the vicinity of prisons in most cases, the Social Integration Centers (CIS) address the need for third-degree or semi-liberty prison placements required by the General Directorate of Penitentiary Institutions. This represents a new line of work that Árgola began developing in collaboration with the General Directorate in 2007: the development of construction projects based on previously drafted preliminary designs, as well as coordination with the engineering firms responsible for each specific project. Construction projects have been completed for the CIS in Llanos de Botafuegos (Algeciras), Tahiche (Lanzarote), the Levante Services Industrial Park (Palma de Mallorca), Cáceres, and Huelva.

For obvious reasons, each project receives a distinct formal treatment, although all respond to a similar set of needs. This is due to the size and shape of the plot, their location—generally peripheral, next to prisons, except for Huelva, which has a more urban character—and the size of the center itself, which ranges from 50 (Lanzarote and Cáceres) to 150 beds (Huelva and Algeciras). The Palma de Mallorca variant adds 20 units for mothers with children to the 152 rooms for inmates.
