Eco-neighborhood of Cerro Almagro
PROJECT: Cerro Almagro Eco-neighborhood
The Cerro Almagro eco-neighborhood project aims, as its primary objective, to help solve the housing problem in Jaén through a high-quality public intervention. It will achieve this by developing a process of eco-urbanism and bioclimatic architecture that can serve as a demonstration project.
General criteria and measures:
- A model of a compact and densely populated city.
- Consume less land.
- Minimize energy consumption.
- Recovering the authentic urban community by fostering encounters between neighbors.
An integrated city, both socially and functionally, achieved through a mix of different housing types based on the principle that there is room for everyone.
76% of the housing is reserved for Social Housing (VPO).
The remaining 24% is integrated with the social housing.
Existing features of the area are incorporated and enhanced, and the connection with the city is fostered through the design of a waterfront promenade and viewpoint.

- Reduction of the ecological footprint
- A city designed for pedestrians
- Minimizing private vehicle use by promoting a quality public transport system and alternative modes of transport such as bicycles or small electric vehicles.
- Design of a separate sanitation network, with reuse of rainwater for irrigation.
- Projection of a citizen information and awareness center.
- District heating and cooling proposal, achieving greater efficiency and, consequently, lower greenhouse gas emissions.
- The proposal features a strong presence of nature, allocating 19% of the surface area to open spaces and providing continuity to the network
