El Puche Urbanization Project

PROJECT: Urbanization Project of UE-4, Puche Norte, defined in the specific modification No. 29 of the PGOU of Almería

The current state of the urbanization and buildings is nothing short of calamitous. The condition of the plazas between houses, which are supposed to be pedestrianized but are instead used by vehicles parked and driven around without any control, is particularly striking.
The paving is also in terrible condition. The roadways have a poor-quality bituminous surface, which is slated for demolition, and the interior plazas have a deteriorated continuous concrete pavement.
The project therefore consists of a complete urbanization redevelopment plan to replace all urban service networks (sanitation, water supply, irrigation, medium and low voltage electricity, and telecommunications) and their respective connections to the
houses, as well as the road surfaces, curbs and paving, street lighting, landscaping, and all fixed and movable elements of street furniture and amenities.

Firstly, the criteria used are those listed in the Preliminary Studies document, which we transcribe here in summary form:

• Accessibility: curbs and steps will be removed from the routes and access to the housing blocks.
• Singularity: the repetition of the design will be avoided, allowing, through formal and functional variety, the particularized recognition of each of these isomorphic spaces.
• Simplicity: the design should be simple, which is usually associated with lower cost and greater durability, with few elements and proven and unsophisticated construction solutions.
• Durability: the materials, design and elements to be installed must be of great hardness and resistance to use and even misuse.
• Easy maintenance and replacement: material elements and construction solutions must be chosen taking these two factors into consideration.
• Exclusively tree-based landscaping, of sufficient size to facilitate its viability, and few elements of urban furniture, chosen for their resistance and quality.
• Open design that allows the space to be used for more than one function and by more than one social group (children, young people, adults, etc.). Multipurpose space that is not overly specialized
