Logistics Center of the Emergency Hospital Nurse Isabel Zendal

PROJECT: Logistics Center for the Nurse Isabel Zendal Emergency Hospital

The Isabel Zendal Nurse Hospital arose as an initiative of the Madrid Health Service (SERMAS) of the Community of Madrid to control the COVID-19 pandemic. The initial preliminary design program is divided into four parts for its development and construction, with the Logistics Center, which will centralize SERMAS logistics, being awarded to Árgola Arquitectos.
Also included in the project to be developed and built are the public plaza/street that connects the different volumes/uses of the complex, as well as the landscaping that connects this outdoor expansion space with the existing IML building.
The Logistics Center comprises a main volume, the warehouse, a large, open-plan container of industrial typology with a rectangular floor plan of 90 x 48 m (between structural axes) and a clear interior height of 12 m, providing natural light throughout its perimeter and ceiling. This will house the bulk of the general storage and linen storage. This building is attached to the hospital at the basement level on its north side, with the rest of the required program located at this level: smaller storage areas, a maintenance area, and the hospital's purchasing management unit.
A key constraint of this project is the tight execution timeframe, which necessitates the parallel development of the design and construction phases within a short period of four months. This has led to an unprecedented collaboration and coordination among all the teams involved to achieve a unified solution that meets high-quality standards.
