Garena Health Centre
PROJECT: Health Center, Primary Care Management and SUMA 112 Base in La Garena.
A complex of three buildings that house the La Garena health center , the SUMMA 112 base and the Primary Care Management of the former Health Area 3 of Alcalá de Henares .
Although the complex has been designed as a single formal unit, the different areas and built volumes have been clearly distinguished. The layout is determined by the need for the Health Center to be located as close as possible to the surrounding residential area (east side), for the SUMMA 112 emergency medical service to be situated separately to ensure immediate and convenient vehicle access, and for the General Warehouses to be arranged in such a way as to facilitate loading and unloading. The longitudinal sequence of Health Center – Primary Care Management – General Warehouses thus appears to be the most appropriate.
Public access is directed southwards, sheltered by a canopy that connects the various entrances. In this area, a landscaped slope runs the entire length of the building, featuring a dense grove of irregularly planted acacia trees that protects the open spaces from the intense summer sun and simultaneously acts as a buffer between the building and the commuter rail station.
On the north side are the parking areas for the public and staff, as well as the maneuvering areas for SUMMA ambulances. The entire parking area is shaded by a regular grid of London plane trees (Plátanus hispanica) which, once mature, will provide uniform coverage across the entire beach.
An intermediate passageway, roughly aligned – in the transverse direction – with the connection to the neighboring Shopping Centre, connects both circulations.
