General Urban Development Plan of Isla Cristina
PROJECT: General Urban Development Plan of Isla Cristina
The revision of Isla Cristina's General Plan pursues two objectives that it seeks to reconcile: ensuring orderly and reasonable growth of land zoned for residential and economic activities, especially tourism, and protecting a pristine natural environment. The new plan, which revises the one in force since 1987, reinforces the territorial model proposed by the original plan, designating 64% of the municipality as a protected area. Pine forests, marshes, and beaches are thus safeguarded from real estate and economic development. Alongside this, residential and economic developments are being implemented. In this context, the central focus is on tourism, as a necessary complement to fishing, industry, and services, promoting active tourism over second homes. At the same time, accessibility to the municipality is being improved through the construction of new access roads.
