Isla Cristina municipal swimming pool
PROJECT: Indoor Swimming Pool of the Municipal Sports Centre of Isla Cristina, Huelva
The Indoor Swimming Pool is located within the large sports complex that also includes the Sports Hall, the Football Field, and the running tracks. A linear brick structure forms a large, solid facade, which is supported by a large metal sheet roof held up by six reinforced concrete frames.
The pool basin has eight regulation lanes, with dimensions of 25 x 16.66 meters and a maximum depth of 2.20 meters and a minimum depth of 1.25 meters. The headroom above the pool is over four meters. The facility has ample natural light thanks to the glazed curtain walls on its south and west facades.
The total area, excluding the observation deck, is 770 m², of which 353.50 m² corresponds to the perimeter beach, which has a minimum width of 2.60 meters and is free of obstacles. The solarium has a usable area of 149 m². Access to the pool area from the changing rooms is via two shower tunnels. The wooden paneling provides adequate acoustic insulation.
The Indoor Swimming Pool is located within the large sports complex comprised of the Sports Hall, the Football Field, and the courts. The most striking formal element of the design is a linear structure, 64 meters long and 3.5 meters wide, constructed of exposed brick, forming a large, solid facade that only yields to the entrance to the lobby. The large metal sheet roof, supported by six reinforced concrete frames, rests on this longitudinal element. It connects to the perimeter of the sports complex through access openings fitted with metal gates. The south facade, glazed in the pool area and largely closed in the changing room area, forms the rear boundary facing the complex's tennis courts.
