Izmir Hospital Campus – Bayrakli
PROJECT: Izmir Integrated Hospital Campus
This campus, along with the one in Kocaeli, was part of a very ambitious plan undertaken by the Turkish Ministry of Health, which partially funded the construction of this hospital campus in Izmir Bayrakli through a public-private partnership (PPP). The scope of this PPP encompassed the construction of the hospital campus (with a 36-month execution period), its commissioning and management, as well as its maintenance for a 25-year concession period.
The joint venture between the Turkish companies GAMA Inc. and TÜRKELER Inc. won the private sector tender and was responsible for the engineering, procurement, and construction of the campus facilities, as well as their maintenance. Árgola Arquitectos was contracted by this joint venture, along with Euroestudios and Ámbito Arquitectura, to carry out the preliminary design.
The campus has a total built area of 628,000 m2, and serves the hospital needs of the cities in the region, including the Izmir area with a population of 3.4 million.
The project has a capacity of 2060 beds and consists of three main buildings:
- Main Hospital: 789-bed General Hospital, 372-bed Cardiovascular Diseases Hospital, 88-bed Oncology Hospital, 404-bed Children's and Obstetrics Hospital.
- Forensic Medicine Hospital: 100-bed high-security forensic psychiatry hospital (located in a separate building).
- Rehabilitation Hospital: 300-bed Rehabilitation and Physical Therapy Hospital (located in a separate building).
