Marín Shopping Center

PROJECT: Marín Shopping Centre (first prize)

In the Port of Marín Service Area, next to the coastal access to the urban center and adjacent to the historic center and the facilities of the Naval School, this new complex of Leisure Center, Recreation Area and underground parking will be located.

A dynamic complex, the Center will leverage its prime location to create a significant urban event for the city. A five-meter-high plinth-like volume supports two taller volumes at its ends, staggered in relation to the complex's base. This base features a green roof, a terrace, and a skating rink. A large, covered, triangular skylight at the center provides natural light to the mall and the underground level, which is designated for commercial and recreational use.

The tallest volume (10 meters above ground level), whose main facade faces the city, constitutes the most significant formal landmark. This prism, whose vertically and horizontally offset edges create a powerful formal dynamism, is enveloped in a backlit polycarbonate curtain wall that allows for a changing perception from the outside, becoming an attractive element depending on the time of day and the light.

At the northern end of the building, and on the same platform, there is another volume placed at an angle, rotated with respect to the direction of the two facades that converge at this point, thus emphasizing its character as a singular element.
