Puerta del Hierro Hospital Mental Health Center

AUTHOR: Árgola Arquitectos

SURFACE AREA: 6,700 m2

STATUS: EXECUTION PROJECT DRAWN UP, CONSTRUCTION PENDING

DESCRIPTIVE MEMORANDUM

The project for the new Mental Health Center in Majadahonda responds to the need to provide the northwest area of the Community of Madrid with a specialized infrastructure, capable of meeting the growing demand for care.

The proposal is conceived as an open, accessible, and therapeutic, where architecture acts as an active tool in the recovery process. The humanization of the space is established as a central theme, prioritizing natural light, the connection with vegetation, environmental comfort, and spatial quality.

The building is organized around a central landscaped courtyard, which articulates the complex and structures the relationships between its uses. It clearly differentiates the adult and child/adolescent care areas, guaranteeing their functional independence, safety, and suitability to the specific needs of each user. The main entrance, the administrative area, and the Day Hospital, which incorporates therapeutic spaces connected to the courtyard and the exterior, are located on the ground floor.

The building's volume adapts to the geometry of the plot and the existing Valle de la Oliva Health Center building, with which it shares its surroundings, integrating itself through a contained scale and a domestic and welcoming architectural image, based on warm materials and a strong presence of vegetation.

The project also incorporates criteria of flexibility, sustainability and energy efficiency, along with special attention to the well-being of both patients and professionals, integrating specific spaces for the care of the healthcare team.

The result is a contemporary healthcare facility that combines functionality, organizational clarity and environmental quality, positioning architecture as an active part of the therapeutic process.
