Church of Navacerrada
PROJECT: Parish Church of Navacerrada
The Parish Church of Navacerrada, the Nativity of Our Lady, is located on the hill to the north of the old town, in the foothills of the Sierra de Guadarrama.
This church, belonging to the rural Gothic style, has a single nave, a presbytery, a chapel, a sacristy, and a three-tiered tower at its foot. Its masonry and ashlar construction dates back to the 16th century. From this period, it retains an interesting baptismal font and a stone pulpit. Before the unfortunate renovation of 1954, which attempted to reinvent the church in a Neo-Baroque style, it had a wooden coffered ceiling and a porch protecting the voussoir archway on the epistle side façade.
