PROJECT: New Children's Hospital of Panama City (PA)

The building consists of a base on which the hospitalization rooms and the tower of Laboratories, Administration and Finance, and Management are built.

The base occupies the entirety of the two proposed plots, respecting 37th Street, which is integrated into the project. All the healthcare and service activities of both programs are articulated across the four levels of the base, allowing for shared services and thus optimizing and maximizing the use and operation of the Hospital.

On the upper floors above the access level next to Avenida de Chile, the two base sections merge to form a single building. Circulation above street level is facilitated by glazed walkways that connect the two sections where necessary.

The Hospitalization units are situated on this base in such a way that no building constitutes an architectural barrier to the sea, allowing all rooms to have similar sunlight, ventilation and views, without favoring some units over others.

At the corner of Avenida de Chile and Calle 36, the tower housing laboratories, administration and finance, and management offices rises like a landmark. This tower distinguishes the building, breaking the sequence of the inpatient wards and highlighting the high-level areas.

This building has 58,585 m² of above-ground space and an additional 7,750 m² in a single basement level used for parking and facilities. The building has a total of 421 beds and 197 cribs for the mother and child unit.

The hospital's modular design allows for interchangeable functional hospitalization areas, since the systematic repetition of identical modules between identical courtyards, sized according to the needs of the functional areas and by floor, allows for various combinations by exchanging pieces depending on the priorities of topological relationships between areas established a priori.
