New Hospital III Vitarte in Lima
PROJECT: Preliminary design of the New Vitarte III Hospital of the Almenara healthcare network of ESSALUD
The proposed hospital consists of two buildings, the Main Building and the Technical Block.
The Main Building has five floors above ground and houses the inpatient wards and the more public areas of the building, such as the outpatient area and the units most closely connected to the main entrance. It has an elongated shape and is aligned with the southern boundary of the plot. It contains two stairwells and elevator cores providing visitor access to the inpatient units, as well as two emergency stairwells. Four courtyards provide natural light and ventilation to the interior spaces and divide the building into four wings, attached in pairs (northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast).
The Technical Block has three floors above ground and a basement. It houses the central services with the largest staff (highly qualified medical and non-medical personnel) and technological resources, such as the surgical, obstetric, ICU, Emergency, and laboratory areas. The general support units and building services are located in the basement. The building has a square floor plan aligned with the northern edge of the plot. Staircases and elevators are located at its four corners, ensuring evacuation and immediate connection between the floors of this building, independent of the main core. It contains six courtyards that provide natural light and ventilation to the interior. Internally, it is divided into three modules separated by three courtyards, which we will call the north module, the central module, and the south module.
Between the two buildings lies the hospital entrance at the first and second floor levels and a main vertical circulation core containing specialized elevators for patients, staff, and supplies, which serves as the essential link between the two buildings. This core runs through all floors of the building, from the basement to the fifth floor, and crowns the hospital to provide access to the roof and the building's service bays.
