PROJECT: New Hospital of Cáceres

The construction of the first phase of the New Hospital of Cáceres represented an important innovation in hospital typological research, being a building of about 57,000 m2 that would be expanded in a second phase.

A complex scheme has been adopted that superimposes two completely different grids, separating them with a technical plan derived from the vertical differentiation of the tower and base models.

The Basement: It is developed in six concentric bands that contain the care, support, and general services. The first band is the lobby; these are followed by two more with outpatient uses, a fourth for staff, a fifth that constitutes the technical block, and the sixth band that contains the logistics services block. The bands are connected by specialized circulation spaces formalized as glazed galleries.

The Hospitalization: Built in the form of wings joined two by two alternately to one side and the other and articulated in a zigzag shape, situated on the base with 3 floors above a technical floor of facilities.

The Facilities Building: Located next to the last band of the base, it is a detached building attached to the hospital on the gallery level.

The second phase will subsequently continue the scheme proposed in this first phase, that is, on the one hand the bands will be extended from their ends and on the other hand wings with the zigzag configuration will be added on the upper floors.
