Parking and development of parking spaces in San Fernando

PROJECT: Parking and development of squares in San Fernando

The San Fernando City Council has decided to renovate two squares in the city center: Sánchez de la Campa, at the beginning of Calle Real, and Merendero. While the latter has a more local character, next to the former stands the Castle of San Romualdo, San Fernando's most prominent monument, a building from the early 14th century constructed by Muslim master builders in the style of Islamic ribats.

The transformation of Calle Real into a coexistence zone allows for the creation of a vast public space that offers opportunities for tourist tours or the celebration of festivals such as carnivals.

The concept of the plaza takes on a new meaning, beyond a simple meeting and leisure point, gaining a leading role in the network of urban routes thanks to the interrelation between circulation and recreation and on the basis of a coherent treatment of plazas and pedestrian streets.
