PROJECT: Port of Levante

The proposal is fundamentally characterized by the rightful return to the city of a space with a direct connection to the estuary, a connection that is currently lost. The riverfront becomes a walkable sculpture, useful for strolling, relaxing, as a viewpoint, and for recreational and cultural activities. It allows for the urban enjoyment of the waterfront and the landscape of the estuary and the Odiel Marshes.

Furthermore, the incorporation of the area into citizen use, the incorporation of non-port uses, and the physical and visual permeability to be achieved between the city and the estuary were resolved without detriment to the strict compliance with the port fishing program, and the most correct resolution of the flows of vehicles, merchandise, port personnel, sailors and buyers, in order to achieve excellent operational functioning of the dock and its fishing uses.

A new relationship was created between these port activities and the citizens, who, as they stroll along the estuary's edge, can visually participate in the spaces dedicated to wholesale trade and the activity of the fish market. Furthermore, it features a large themed street made up of many small commercial spaces that allow citizens to sample products firsthand and buy them fresh.

The presence of a visual covering filter, consisting of a light structure that supports a double framework of bamboo cane and that runs over the exporters' premises and the maneuvering platform, also partially covers the themed commercial street and the Fish Market Square that ends it on the south side, and acts as a solar and visual filter and produces a sun and shadow effect, which mimics that of a natural bower or a large fishing net.
