Punta Umbría Congress Centre
PROJECT: Punta Umbría Congress Centre (Competition, Second Prize)
The proposed design prioritizes formal singularity over integration into the existing context. This approach enhances the new image of Punta Umbría, with a building that, from various perspectives, seeks to embody the memory of the place. The building aims to be an icon of itself and of the location it occupies, while also serving as a hub for the city's artistic and cultural activities.
It consists of 3 fundamental elements:
-The esplanade: An open floor plan with multiple formalizations and uses, it expands outside the enclosed area and is even simply protected from the weather, opening up to the large public space in front, as an atrium, reception or meeting and waiting point.
-The upper envelope, convex and concave, forming an amphitheater on the roof, allows filtered light to pass through, but not excessive sun or rain, being both facade and roof at the same time.
-Walk and exhibition routes. The main element that runs along the perimeter of the floor is a spiral-shaped walkway, conceived as an itinerary that connects the interior spaces of the building and at the same time allows the perception of the surrounding landscape.
