Ronda Hospital

PROJECT: Ronda Regional Hospital, Malaga

The Ronda Regional Hospital is located on a hillside surrounded by holm oaks, just outside the city. It is a hospital with a surface area of ​​34,000 m² distributed over four floors.

The functional program is comprised of a series of modules arranged against the slope, housing the care facilities. These modules rest on the lowest part of the site, in a wedge-shaped transverse structure containing a large lobby, accessed through a spectacular triple-height canopy.

The most public areas are located around the lobby: the cafeteria, the auditorium, the chapel, the nursery, and the entrances to the outpatient services and the vertical cores that lead to the inpatient units of the modules. Beneath the continuous skylight, situated above the triple-height void of the lobby, the hospital's public circulation routes are located, forming the building's main plaza.

The rear of the building, at the highest point of the plot, is comprised of a block that houses the modules and contains the less public functional areas of the hospital. On the access level, which in this part of the building is at the level of the second floor, are the maintenance, supply, pharmacy, and mortuary services, while on the third floor are the surgical, obstetrics, and sterilization units.

At the southwest end of the building is the central facilities building, which is connected on the roof to the coffered floors, located above the main modules.
