Tamara Rojo Cultural Center

PROJECT: Tamara Rojo Cultural Centre in Villanueva del Pardillo, Madrid

The single-story building sits on a long, narrow plot, creating a facade along Guadarrama Avenue in Villanueva del Pardillo and forming a visual barrier against the industrial buildings to the east of the plot. This layout allows for potential future expansion.

The two main volumes at the northwest corner of the site accentuate the façade and the urban character at this point. The most striking element of the composition is a series of reinforced concrete porticoes, each with two bays and equidistant supports. The order created by these elements is interrupted by a volume that intrudes obliquely, dividing the composition into two fundamental parts. Adding to this rupture is a continuous "cleft" that separates the space beneath the porticoes into two longitudinal sections, creating connections and introducing light and vegetation into the interior spaces (for contemplation and transit).

The main core is defined by the two volumes of the auditorium and the exhibition hall, both by their use and by their placement in the most representative area of ​​the plot, the Northwest corner, and by their heavy and blind character, with solid volumes and no apparent openings.
