DESCRIPTIVE MEMORANDUM

The Gregorio Marañón New Hospital project proposes the comprehensive transformation of an existing, currently fragmented healthcare complex into a coherent, efficient system adaptable to new healthcare demands.

The proposal is based on an analysis of the hospital's past, present, and future, allowing for an orderly assessment of its historical growth and the projection of a model capable of responding to the demands of the National Health System.

The design is structured around a process-based organization, prioritizing resource centralization, functional flexibility, and optimized inter-unit relationships. Sustainability, digitalization, energy efficiency , and improved comfort criteria are incorporated, ensuring a high-quality environment for patients and staff.

The complex is organized into three parallel functional zones:

North section: general services, facilities, and logistical support. Central section: main building with diagnostic, treatment, and hospitalization areas. South section: access, emergency services, teaching areas, and social spaces. The southern edge is also designated as a landscaped area, reinforcing the connection with the city.

This structure is organized through a hierarchical system of circulation that separates the flows of the public, staff and supplies, optimizing the overall functioning of the hospital.

The intervention integrates the existing strategic buildings and fills the gaps with new buildings that improve connectivity and organize the complex.

The project is being developed in phases, ensuring the continuity of hospital activity throughout the entire construction process.

The result is a reliable, technological and humanized, conceived as a contemporary, efficient health infrastructure prepared to evolve over time.
