La Mancha Centro Hospital

PROJECT: La Mancha Centro Hospital in Alcázar de San Juan, Ciudad Real

Due to the needs of the Castilla-La Mancha region, a 9,974 m² expansion and a 14,710 m² renovation of the existing hospital were proposed. To achieve this, a structure similar to the existing ones was added to the north wing, maintaining the same height (ground floor – first floor – second floor – third floor) and with similar morphological characteristics.

This building houses areas for Teaching, Research, Offices, Maintenance, and IT, as well as various areas for use by hospital staff. Perpendicular to this new building is an extension that follows the direction and slope of the street (Av. de la Constitución) and will be for public use. This extension will include an auditorium with a capacity of approximately 250 people, an IT lab with 20 workstations, three classrooms for teaching, and a multipurpose room that will allow for not only hospital-related events but also other public activities such as exhibitions, conferences, audiovisual presentations, and more.

The Outpatient Clinic building is being almost entirely renovated, with a new partition layout to accommodate the new areas operating in this zone, such as the Public Cafeteria (with its own kitchen), Blood Extraction and a large access lobby.

The central courtyard of this building is enclosed by a metal structure and an unconventional roof formed by two curves, one of them (the exterior one) made of cellular polycarbonate and the other, inverted with respect to the previous one, formed by a thin concrete vault.

Another important reform is the relocation of the Laboratories, which are not only being moved but also being expanded since they previously lacked sufficient space for their proper functioning.
